Viewing Animals for Adoption - The kennel is open to the public for general viewing of adoptable animals Monday through Friday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Approved applicants may view animals in the morning hours by appointment. Adoptions and rescues may be picked up in the morning or afternoon, appointment preferred.
Adoption Procedure - The following is the procedure adopting an animal (see for out-of-state adoption procedures).
Apply for Adoption - Applications can be completed at the shelter, emailed or faxed. Click here for the Adoption Application. Adoptions are first-come-first-serve of approved applications. Animals with multiple applicants may go to the applicant who can arrange pick up the soonest. Before applying to adopt an animal, please be ready to process the adoption and pick up the animal as soon as you are approved. Extended hold times are not possible in an open-intake shelter without putting other animals at risk. If you are not yet ready to adopt, please do not apply. - Process the Adoption - Once your application has been approved, the office is open to process adoptions Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5 pm (closed for lunch noon to 1 pm), and select Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The adoption fee is $40 (exact cash, check or credit) which includes a vaccination (DA2PPv for dogs; FVRCP for cats), deworming, and voucher for a rabies vaccination. Microchips are also included in the adoption if desired and in-stock at the time of the adoption.
- Have your pet Spayed/Neutered - GA State law requires all pets adopted from animal shelters be spayed/neutered. If the pet you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you must sign a contract to have it done within 30 days or by sexual maturity. This is not only the responsible thing to do, but it is required by GA State Law. Several generous local veterinarians have agreed to perform surgeries on pets adopted from animal control at a discounted rate. You must provide the shelter with the receipt from the veterinarian once the surgery is complete. ARREST WARRANTS ARE ISSUED FOR THOSE WHO FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE STERILIZATION REQUIREMENTS!
Out-of-State adoptions - out of state adoptions are difficult to arrange, but not impossible. See the Out-of-State Adoptions page for infomation.
