CATS, CATS, AND MORE CATS!
What a sad situation. In 2010, there were 2,073 cats brought to Walton County Animal Control alone. Of those, only 255 were adopted or rescued. That means a total of 1,818 cats were put to sleep. While we try to find homes, there just aren't enough. The answer is in decreasing the number of cats that are brought in. In the spring and summer, citizens bring in box after box full of kittens. It doesn't have to be that way! Many clinics and groups offer discount, and sometimes free, spays.  See our Pet Assistance Page for more details.

Facebook users, please include the link for  Out-of-State Adoptions and Out-of-State Rescue Info  when posting our cats on your Facebook pages.

Note: the shelter is closed to the public for general viewing and animal drop-offs on Saturday, February 4th. Adoptions and rescues may be picked up with pre-arranged appointment. Sorry for the inconvenience.

ADOPTING TWO CATS IS BETTER THAN ONE

ASK ABOUT "2-FOR-THE PRICE OF 1" CAT ADOPTIONS!

·        Cats who have a playmate tend to be more socially well-adjusted and avoid behavior problems like shyness, biting, hissing, being frightened and hiding in the company of people they don't know.

·        They are less likely to ruin furniture out of boredom.

·        If you must work long hours or travel for a couple of days, two or more cats keep each other company and are more tranquil during your absence.

·        It's more likely that people bring back an adopted cat due to behavior problems when only one has been adopted rather than two.

·        Your cat will remain more playful and youthful into his/her later years with a companion.

·        Cats are much less likely to gain weight due to lack of movement, and to suffer related illnesses.

·        The workload to care for two cats remains relatively the same. You don't need more space for a second cat!
